Better with Blueberry Biscuits

Monday, August 1, 2011

Scouring Reddit the other day, we saw a delicious-looking picture of some biscuits made by ‘kaldrazidrim’ using a recipe from “Williams-Sonoma Bread“.  As always, the comments are the best part of a Reddit post and in this case he decided to post the whole recipe. Without buttermilk in stock we decided to change the recipe and hopefully improve upon it.  Having not tasted the original we can’t honestly say this one is better (although it makes for a nice alliteration in the title); but we can say this one is damn good.

As you can see, these biscuits bake up nice and high, a picturesque way to start a Sunday morning. The wonderful layers split easily for a nice dab of butter, though they’re delicious just the way they are.  Though ‘blueberry’ may conjure tastes of dessert, these are savory biscuits.

Blueberry Topped Fiori di Sicilia Cake

Sunday, February 7, 2010

It was time to make a birthday cake for my little brother, Justin, 6 foot 1 inch tall and about twice my weight, but still my little brother. He doesn’t really get excited about cake so I struggled a little over this one. Lon reminded me that Justin isn’t into frosting. It seems he often wipes some off. Janny reminded me that Justin likes blueberries. So, despite using blueberries on a cake just recently, I was going to do it again, but in a birthday cake with no frosting. I know some would not call it a birthday cake if it does not don the billowy puffs and swirls of sugar, so if that’s you, just call this a perfect tea time cake.

My Black & White Cookies

Thursday, January 7, 2010

You may be thinking that this does not look exactly like the Black & White Cookie you just bought at the deli/bakery/bagel shop. You are right. I’ve changed this long time classic.

You see, I made classic Black & White Cookies from Carole Walter’s Great Cookies book. These big waist busting beauties were very good. I love the lemon oil that brightens and lightens the simplicity of vanilla and chocolate. But, the best part is the middle. I tend to like the thicker parts and not the thinner edges. I like that these are cakey cookies.

Mini Matcha Cupcake 3

You may remember the Matcha Green Tea Cupcakes I made in November of last year. I gave a batch to my friend Sara for her birthday and she shared some with a co-worker, Jean. Jean loved the cupcakes so Sara asked me to make some for Jean on her birthday. There’s nothing that makes me feel better than people enjoying my food so of course I said yes. As I made these cupcakes, I was debating whether or not to post the recipe again. After all, it’s the same recipe, just cut in half. But, I decided that I have a few helpful tips to add so I’m posting. Plus, this is one of my most popular recipes and it’s so easy to make. I hope you make these for your best friend on their birthday.

Dark Chocolate Cupcakes with Mocha Mascarpone Frosting

Friday, March 20, 2009

Borrowing a little here and a little there, and with a few tweaks, I created these scrumptious cupcakes. When I made the Matcha Green Tea Cupcakes, I had so much fun making two sizes that I decided to do that again.

Banana Birthday Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Saturday, January 31, 2009

It’s my friend Monica’s birthday and of course I made a cake. I went through the massive list of recipes I have bookmarked and decided on a banana cake. I made a few changes: I omitted the nuts (Monica doesn’t like nuts), opted for a cream cheese frosting, and threw in some chocolate shavings for decoration.

Matcha Green Tea Cupcakes

Sunday, November 9, 2008

I wanted to make birthday cupcakes for two friends, Sara and Rachel, and I couldn’t decide on regular sized cupcakes or miniatures. Turns out, things worked themselves out, two people meant I could do both. I must be on a lucky streak because this recipe also turned out to be perfectly one tray of regular sized and one tray of miniature sized. (update with smaller recipe portion here) Oh, and absolutely delicious too!
