Coffee Milk Tea

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Coffee Milk Tea, called Yuen Yang (Ying Yang) in Chinese, is simply what it sounds like: coffee, milk, and tea. The coffee vs. tea debate is as common as the vanilla vs. chocolate, with fervent devotees on both sides. As hard as I’ve tried, I don’t favor one over the other and drink both coffee and tea almost every day. I wonder what that says about me? Indecisive, un-opinionated (ha, my brother is laughing out loud somewhere), equal opportunistic? It probably doesn’t mean anything other than my body can handle a lot of caffeine.

Caramel Macchiato Cupcakes

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

It was time to make something special for Winnie’s birthday. Besides that, I kind of owe her. She was one of my first friends in college, possibly the second person I met. We were sitting next to each other in an economics class (theater style seating) when I just fell asleep on her. I had yet to speak to her but I already drooled a bit. Anyone who will then foster a friendship with the weird girl that just fell asleep on them is surely the sweetest and most forgiving person ever. We’ve been friends for 12 years now.

Cold Brewed Iced Coffee

Saturday, August 22, 2009

It’s time for Weekend Shout-out and this week I have Amanda Mae at Mae Bird to thank for a wonderful Saturday morning. See, I’m a little addicted to Iced Coffee. If you watch my twitter, you’ll notice Iced Coffee just about every morning. In the summer, taking a stroll with my dog, Ice, and sipping an Iced Coffee, is my favorite past time, made only better by my hubby Lon coming along. (BTW, that’s not how Ice got her name.)

Amanda Mae posted about a Cold Brewing recipe from The New York Times, from over 2 years ago and then suggested adding a drop of almond extract, sweetening with agave, and completing with half-and-half. I loved the post because hearing about how someone drinks their coffee (or iced coffee) makes me feel like I’ve gotten to know them better. Coffee is very personal. How much sweetener you put and what kind, the whole gradient between black and extra creamy, regular or decaf, hot or cold, and preference for different beans and blends, and then maybe additional flavors.

Simplified German Chocolate Cake

We had a little German themed dinner with pretzels, schnitzel, cabbage, and roasted potatoes so I wanted to follow through with a German dessert. I was feeling a bit lazy and decided to simplify German Chocolate Cake, a lot. I’m a little embarrassed by just how easy this was to make.
