2005 Charles Baur Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Pfersigberg

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

We went to Blue HIll at Stone Barns Sunday night (full post coming soon) and we shared a bottle of 2005 Charles Baur Gewurztraminer. I fell in love with it! It’s a sweet wine, almost sweet enough to have as a dessert wine, but still perfect during a meal. It’s still refreshing and just […]

Zampa

Friday, June 12, 2009

Angie and I met at Zampa 306 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10014 early (6:30pm) to make sure we could secure a seat since they don’t give reservations for parties of two. We decided to sit at the bar, a cleverly designed one that zig-zagged across the length of the space. It gives […]

Daniel

Friday, June 5, 2009

Monday was our one year anniversary and Lon took me to Daniel Daniel. I don’t even know where to begin on this post. It was just an exquisite evening, but of course, being married to Lon makes everything seem more wonderful.
There are so many little details that make the Daniel experience memorable, from the rotating […]

Casillero del Diablo

Monday, May 25, 2009

We drank a 2007 Chilean Carmenere from Concha y Toro vineyard’s Casillero del Diablo wines.
This is a good beginner red: light, a bit sweet, and very fruity, and inexpensive (we paid $9.99). It smells wonderfully fruity as well. We both found it a little bitter on the finish though.

Bodegas Dios Baco Oloroso Sherry

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Chris happened to bring a bottle of sherry that perfectly matched our dessert.  He didn’t know we were making Apricot Beignets, but he nailed the choice with an oloroso sherry from Bodegas Dios Baco, originating in Jerez, Spain.

First, olorosos are a bit sweeter and less dry than other sherrys, that is perfect for our personal […]

Sparks Steak House

Saturday, April 18, 2009

As soon as you walk in to Sparks Steak House Sparks Steak House, you’ll notice that they’re very old school. It’s a boys club here, where men out number women 4 to 1, every staff member is male, and there is a wall full of cigars. The feel is very, old mob movie-like and there […]

Santa Julia Tardio 2003

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

We’ve had this bottle of Santa Julia Tardio 2003 in our fridge for a while. Neither of us remember how we got it but we finally decided to sip a little dessert wine the other night, while watching “House”. (Yes, we need cordial glasses. Perhaps when we move one day.)
It’s more just sweet than […]

Degustation

Sunday, November 2, 2008

My friend Angie recommended Degustation Degustation a while ago and we finally got around to going. It’s set up as a bar around the open kitchen, which is very cool, but not ideal for 4 people. It was a little harder to talk to our friends, Martin and Melissa, so I would recommend going in […]

Beckmen Vineyards Grenache Rose

Friday, October 10, 2008

My sweet neighbor works in the wine business. I know what you’re thinking: What a waste…Lon and I aren’t really drinkers. Well, my neighbor gave us a bottle of Beckmen Vineyards Grenache Rose so we invited some of my friends (who do love wine) over to enjoy. This bottle was so interesting because it’s a […]

On Drinking Wine

Sunday, January 20, 2008

People seem to struggle when it comes time to selecting wine. My co-worker Marcos would insert a pun here, something like “whine is not delicious.” However, most agree that wine, without the ‘h’, is delicious. The question is, how do you pick the best wine?
It seems odd that buying and picking wine makes […]
