Manasi, over at Kiss the Cook, wrote a post about Magic Masala potato chips, which are made by Lays but distributed in India. She just recently found it in NJ and then she sent me some. Is that the sweetest thing ever? Well, the least I could do is have her as this week’s Weekend Shout Out, but that’s really not enough to repay her. I’ll have to think of something better.
The Magic Masala chips are awesome! You may have noticed that Lon and I always buy chips in other countries. It’s just so interesting to see the flavor differences and of course stuff is always more enticing when it’s something you can’t get at home. These are spiced with a mix of Indian flavors and leave you with a nice kick that lingers and builds up if you start to eat the chips faster and faster, as I did, as soon as the pictures were done.
Because they are spicy and pretty salty, I decided to whip up a quick raita to go with it. I couldn’t wait to eat the chips so I just threw everything in the blender. It works and the pairing is perfect, spicy and salty with cool and creamy. I couldn’t ask for a better summer time snack, something you could whip up when friends or family drop in at the very last minute. The raita even makes it a relatively healthy snack. (If you don’t have these chips, use any spicy one.)
Quick Blender Raita
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt (strongly recommend 2% Fage)
- 1/2 cup peeled and diced seedless cucumber
- 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
- 1/4 cup chopped scallion (white and light green parts only)
- kosher salt and white pepper to taste
Instructions –
Just throw everything into a blender and blend until smooth.
Serve or store covered in the fridge until ready to serve.
