We don’t think very highly of gelato in NY, after being spoiled by the great gelato in Europe. I don’t think I would have tried L’arte del Gelato 75 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10014 if I hadn’t seen a positive review by Yvo, The Feisty Foodie, which makes her this week’s Weekend Shout Out!
It’s still not quite as good as what you’d get in Italy but pretty close. We loved how natural the flavors were, and how sugar was kept in check. The banana and peanut are amazing! The blueberry has a great flavor but it’s a little stiff. We do feel like the portion is a bit chintzy for $4.75 each, but I’ll have to suck it up and continue paying these prices because I will be back. We wish they would use better (or bigger) cups too, ones where this stuff doesn’t melt all over your hands.
After they scoop your flavors, they add a dab of another flavor on top for you to try, which is such a smart idea. Lon got pear and I got passion fruit, and now I’ll want those flavors next time. Feisty Foodie, if I get fat this summer, it’s all your fault. =/
So visit L’arte del Gelato. They have 3 locations!

Oh you’re killing me with all these good spots. We got some few gelato places in Norhtern California but nothing compared that the ones in NYC. So what flavors are there in the pics?
I’m glad you liked L’arte. Admittedly, Kathy (of A Passion for Food)’s raves about the place helped me find it since I never did the whole ‘search for good gelato in NYC’ thing that everyone else did… I just lucked out 🙂
Thanks for the shout out!
YES! I’m going to NYC soon! I def will visit!
Italian ice cream is hard to beat, agreed, but it looks close. You have so many amzing places to visit there!! I’m drooling here..
this reminds me of our very first visit to the States, our son was six years at the time, the ice cream vendor gave him about 25 flavours to choose from, what did he ask for ? vanilla!! *thud*
That looks gorgeous… and passionfruit gelato would be hard to beat!
Have you tried Grom? I haven’t been to Italy so I can’t compare to that, but I’ve been impressed with Grom’s gelato (though it is also quite pricey).
Jackie, the one on the left is banana and peanut. The one on the right is blueberry and yogurt.
Emily, we reviewed Grom, which was very good quality but way too sweet.
This is my favorite gelato place in the city. Sooo yummy.
