When you go to a big Chinese supermarket, they often have an entire aisle dedicated to frozen dumplings. It’s a bit overwhelming. Thank goodness for my mother, who has tried most, if not all of the dumpling brands. She always tells me which ones to buy. We’ve talked about Way Fong Dumplings and Wei-Chuan Soup Dumplings, which we usually keep in our freezer, but this time, my mom suggested another brand to me, Prime Food. She was particularly interested in me trying the Pork & Cabbage flavored with Hot Seafood Sauce.
Ok. my mom knows my taste, and Lon’s by now. She knew we would like these dumplings and we sure did. They have the tastiest fillings, seasoned more than most and a bit spicy. I didn’t even want to dip it into anything. I was actually a little worried because the skins looked a bit thin (I don’t like the thin skinned Korean dumplings) but they had enough bounce to them.
An extra plus is that they are made in Brooklyn so they’re local for me, but a day after eating them, I noticed that they have food coloring. Agh! I’m allergic. Thank goodness nothing happened, but Lon will have to eat the rest of the bag. I’m sure he won’t complain.

my mom is very picky about her dumplings, too, and finally settled on a brand that she likes!
Pearl, which brand?
I like my mom’s dumplings the best, but Wei-Chuan is good, too. 🙂 I’ll have to look for Prime Food.
Down here, the only real dumplings are Southren style!
I’d like to see a post on the proper preparation of dumplings in each form, steamed, microwaved, potsticker (fried). I always stick my potstickers. You mentioned releasing with a splash of vinegar, but still not great. Step by step would be helpful.
Bill, I have never microwaved dumplings but I’m sure it can be done. I will do a step-by-step on boiling, steaming, and potstickers. It’s a great idea for a post.
You should try the dumpling from Chef One. Unlike other brands, they are fully cooked, so you can just reheat it using microwave. Also, it doesn’t contain MSG and food coloring…
