This post signifies the start of a new section at Foodmayhem, called Weekend Shout Out! I learn so much from other food blogs so each week, we’re going to feature a post from another blog that I loved.
I’ve had La Colombe Torrefaction 319 Church Street, New York, NY 10013 on “my list” since I read about it on Big City, Little Kitchen over 8 months ago. I know, I know. It’s ridiculous, but my list is so long. There’s just an endless number of places I want to go to. I want to publicly say thank you, because I loved it. The cappuccino was delicious at a reasonable price ($3 something). I think most places grasp that you have to use a lot of steamed milk but they usually forget to use a strong enough tasting espresso that won’t be washed out by the milk. So often, cappuccino ends up tasting like a big cup of steamed milk with a hint of coffee. Here, the balance of strong espresso and a generous amount of steamed milk creates the perfect full mouth feel while still tasting like an espresso-based beverage. (Big City, Little Kitchen has way more beautiful pictures of the cappuccino. I only brought out the point-and-shoot yesterday.)
I also really enjoy being able to watch the barista make the fancy designs. I saw a gorgeous leaf and I got a heart. Thanks dude!
I only have a few notes to add. The post mentions that chairs being bolted down but I guess the place has changed a little since then. There is a long bench along the wall, but on the other side of the little round tables is movable stools. My one complaint about La Colombe is that they don’t have a bathroom. First of all, you have to have a bathroom if you have over 19 seats (unless the law has changed since). Second, people are drinking espresso. I don’t know about you, but that makes me have to pee before I even finish the cup. But Still, I’d definitely go back to La Colombe. Lastly, they have a second location, La Colombe 270 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10012, so make sure you visit one of them, and don’t take as long as it took me to go.

hahaha i love the barista’s face! what a great sport.
Very pretty cappuccino!
what a friendly looking barista. Good attitude servers always make a bit different. The cappuccino looks lovely…heard there’s a barista who does facial features with the foam as well! Skilled…
oooh my … I love that beautiful cup and saucer set! If I follow my way, my cabinet will be full of such dainty sets 😀 I had before foam of heart. fern leaf, sunshine, rabbit, star burst and Apple logo too.
I agreed with you some barista don’t have the exact knowledge when making cappucino and I may as well ordered a latte. I have a habit of timing the cappucino… the bubbles must be fine and if the foam collapsed after 5 minutes, I will be back for more 😀
You got a great blog here and I’d bookmarked it for further gawking 😀 Thank you for sharing infos & looking forward to the recipes.
Cappio = tiny/small
cappucinos are NEVER over 5-6oz anything more is a latte…
larger,and yes it’s just a foamy latte
