Recently we paid under $4 per pound for lobster (in Flushing). So, when I read in the New York Times that lobster prices have fallen about 25-30% year over year, I wasn’t too surprised.

The gist of the article, for those who aren’t fans of the NY Times, is that lobster supply is better than normal, with record catches, and demand is way down, due to terrible economic conditions throughout North America. Both consumers and wholesale buyers are simply not buying.

I did a bit of Googling, and turns out that NY Times is a bit late in the game on reporting this (big surprise — I’m not a fan of them).

As an aside, there are tons of other sources covering this news, most reputably the official trade rags and national agencies.
