Just when you got used to the classic shape of one gallon jugs of milk, they throw a curve ball your way and create a new shape for milk containers! Crazy. Well apparently the new shapes are much easier to store and ship, therefore saving the companies money (the article has more info). My guess is that this will eventually lead to different shaped refrigerators to hold these containers.
One interesting note, per the article, is that with the new shape container, shipping crates hold 50% more milk per cubic foot. While it is good business, it’s also good for the environment!

Oh, coolio… I don’t know how long before this will take effect here.
Cool–I like it!
I’ve been seeing those at Costco for a couple years, I believe the ones there are 2 gallon containers.
TS, I haven’t actually seen one in person yet.
Asianmommy, I bet moms like it. =)
Fil, I haven’t seen it but I also don’t look for milk at Costco and BJ’s
I’ve seen them. They are still kinda clumsy for kids to use. When are we going to see milk in liter based containers?
I just encountered these new style gallon containers when i visited my family in Maryland. It was milk container from Costco. I don’t shop there so i only first saw it and used it recently. Don’t like it! I know there are economic reasons (no surprise there) and as is explained, better storage hence shipping benefits, but the most important reason seems to be lost – is it a better design for use by the end user – the consumer?? My answer is NO. It seems more awkward, not as easy to pour from. And, it leaks each and every time you pour which is annoying! I’m a younger individual, not feeble in any way, and i found it awkward to use… not a better package by any stretch. Both my parents hate it. They have a hard time pouring from it. It doesn’t seem to be a good ergonomic design. I’m not naive. I suppose this will just be another one of those things that defer to the company saving money over the consumer getting a better product.
Hi: thanks for getting some time of writing up this specifics. I continually attempt to even more my knowledge of items. No matter whether I consent or disagree, I like details. I don’t forget the previous days when the only supply of knowledge was the library or even the newspaper. They equally look so old. : )
