I love this ginger stuff (picture to the right) which is basically ginger sitting in honey. I couldn’t find any online but it’s available at most Asian markets in New York.
Many people just dissolve a teaspoon or two in hot water for simple ginger tea but one of my favorite winter drinks is a hot cup of Ginger Milk Tea. Here’s the basic recipe which you can adjust to your taste:
2 teaspoons of that ginger stuff
1 cup of boiling water
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon heavy cream
1 tea bag (black tea)
1. Place the ginger stuff in a mug and dissolve with hot water.
2. Add sugar and heavy cream and stir.
3. Dunk tea bag and remove tea bag depending on how bitter/strong you like your tea.
It’s so good; I’m about to make my third cup of the day.

I tried this recipe and must say that I really liked it! Very good indeed!
Thanks! I’ll try this. Have you been to St. Alps on 3rd Avenue between 10th and 11th St? They make a Ginger Black Tea with milk that I like a lot.
I have been to St. Alps. I find them very inconsistent so I stopped going years ago.
Hey, where’s the tapioca? 🙂
I’m tapioca’s out.
You should label the recipe “Instant Ginger Tea” I am looking for the real recipe with fresh ginger….It shouldn’t be complicated and I prefer to do it from scratch. I had a ginger/milk tea with my Roti at a Muslim Restaurant in Singapore and can’t get it out of my mind.
George, I’m not sure there’s only one “real” ginger milk tea. There’s probably different versions from different cultures. This recipe is modeled after the kind that served at bubble tea places.
