Cranbury Pizza

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Having traveled all the way to New Jersey with Lon yesterday, I wasn’t going to leave without trying at least one more thing, so we stopped in at
Cranbury Pizza 63 North Main Street, Cranbury, NJ 08512. The two-block main street has such a friendly vibe to it. We walked up with [...]

Cumin Scented Pickled Beets

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Beets have a natural sweetness to them that makes them perfect for pickling, becoming sweet and sour. It’s the perfect salad topper, relish for meat, or if you like tart stuff as much as I do, you’ll just snack on this all by itself. I used Chioggia beets, which have such pretty patterns, but feel [...]

J & D Italian Deli

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Ice (our Jack Russell Terrier) and I went to work with Lon today, in Dayton, New Jersey, where the Folica warehouse is. There’s trees and grass here, a totally different scene from the Manhattan office in Midtown, Manhattan. Ice has played fetch at least 4 times already today, making this her favorite place on Earth [...]

Nantucket Supreme Bay Scallops

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

We got a 3 pound pack of Nantucket Supreme Bay Scallops (individually quick frozen) a while back at either Costco or BJ’s. It’s terrible! If you see it, do not buy it! I followed the directions on the bag for thawing and tried other methods. I’ve tried cooking it in different ways, but we both [...]

Dark Chocolate, Macadamia Nut, and Ginger Biscotti

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

I was determined to use this sweetened ginger I got a little while ago. I don’t know why I bought it but I guess I just do that whenever I see something new. It’s similar to the concept of crystallized ginger but it seems to be made with confectioner’s sugar instead of granulated sugar.

Shrimp Stuffed Tofu

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

You are in for a real treat! Shrimp Stuffed Tofu is a childhood favorite of mine. I remember watching my mom make it and getting excited instantly. Lon just tried it for the first time this weekend and hasn’t stopped talking about it. He took some left-overs to work for lunch and said it was [...]

Tripie Crepe Cart

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Ahh, the sudden turn of summer weather, finally! I’ve been dying to go on some long walks with Lon and our Jack Russell. Sunday afternoon was perfect. I even got to wear my new sunglasses.
We headed South and eventually I got hot and started craving Iced Coffee.  The “Coffee N’ Crepes” sign got my attention [...]

Chicken and Flowering Chive Lettuce Wraps

Monday, July 6, 2009

You may remember the Pork and Shrimp Lettuce Wraps I did last winter. If you missed it, don’t forget to check it out. I still remember how delicious they were. This past weekend, my mom showed me one of the ways she makes lettuce wraps, with a chicken and flowering chive filling. Its also super [...]

White Sliced Pork

Monday, July 6, 2009

This dish was developed by the Chinese to keep away vampires. I’m totally kidding, but it has some serious garlic in here and it’s fresh garlic which gives it that bite. Bi Che Ro literally translated means White Sliced/Cut Meat, and it’s simply that with a pungent fresh garlic sauce.

Roasted Shrimp with Tomato Vinegar

Sunday, July 5, 2009

My mom gave me some beautiful shrimp and I went surfing for inspiration. Of all the stuff I saw on Tastespotting, Foodgawker, and Photograzing, I chose this one, which makes it this week’s Weekend Shout-out.  Hooray for Carolyn Jung at Food Gal for her wonderful post on roasting shrimp at high heat. This makes perfect [...]
