When I was neighbors with Carol Gelles, the award winning cookbook author, she gave me a juicer. She had several of them from all the testing she did for her book, 101 Ways to Juice It. Of course, I was also given a copy of her book, so I’ve decided to add cookbooks to Weekend Shout Out. I am lucky enough to have a copy of all of her books, and even more blessed to have her in my life so you’ll see more about Carol on this blog for sure.
Anyways, I wanted to share my favorite juice recipe, which is from her book. The only downside is having to use a juicer and a blender, which means more cleaning. If you want to cut corners, you can just buy apple juice (natural, no sugar added), but the freshness of an apple just juiced is astounding. Fuss included, this is still a treat for myself, refreshing and lifting, and an awesome way to start the morning. It’s pretty amazing that two ingredients can taste this good.
Honey Dew Apple Smash

- 1/3 cup apple juice (about 1 medium apple, cored)
- 4 ounces honey dew chunks

Put apple juice and honey dew in a blender. Blend until as smooth or chunky as you like. Drink immediately.

it’s funny, i never would’ve thought to combine those two fruits – but they sound so refreshing and summery together. i’ll have to try this one!
I would have never thought to pair apple with Honey dew. I usually make mine with only honey dew and a hint of ginger. Next time, I’ll try with a granny smith.
Wow what a refreshing drink! I love it!
And how cool it is to have a cookbook author as a neighbor!
btw, I’m SO sad you won’t be able to make the meet-up…I hope there’s another chance sometime!
